In my experience (validated by my documentation) this is a good product. The OP asked for those of us who have used HSS. The reason for the preventative dose is two-fold: first - as previously mentioned the additive levels are higher and provide a greater margin of protection in the event of contamination possibly (and I run a bypass oil filter too so you could say I have a belt-and-suspenders philosophy correctly), second - the engine sounds smoother with the HSS (nothing scientific about this measure unfortunately but my calibrated ear prefers the HSS infused note over a non-treated oil.your mileage may vary). I continued to use the HSS in a preventative dose rather than the initial treatmen level until my most recent oil change.I just forgot to order a new bottle in time - I have however corrected this omission and will return to the preventative dose. I am further convinced that when UOAs picked up trace coolant in my oil I was saved potential damage from the early detection.ĭetection of potential problems aren't a result of HSS use but coupling the addition of HSS with UOA is more proactive than just drain and replace, it will reduce damage from wear metals (documented in my case), and perhaps - this is speculative on my part based on my experience involving my EGR cooler failure - the elevated additive levels provide a greater margin of protection in the event of possible contaminant infiltration. I am convinced that reducing wear metals is good for an engine (I am an Aerospace Engineer but most here would agree that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to observe that lower wear metals is generally a good thing). The peace-of-mind provided from hard data included in the UOA is priceless. I'll also add that I've since included bypass oil filtration and seen additional improvement in the results of my UOAs. Certainly once the injectors were replaced I expected the fuel economy to return to the previously normal range BUT it was higher by the same amount as improved over the period with the two failed injectors - very nice! It did not - and could not - correct the failure of my particular problem BUT my fuel economy improved during the period of time before I replace the two injectors.now to be fully informative my fuel economy plummetted when the two injectors failed and the improvement was still on the low side because there were two fewer injectors to power the truck. However, let me be clear that almost immediately the truck sounded smoother. My hope was that it was stiction but it turned out to be two electrically failed injectors. ![]() I used HSS when I had two injector codes thrown. ![]() ![]() My wear metals, already in the acceptable range, were reduced AND the additives, especially the molybdenum, improved. The bottom line for me - supported by a trend of used oil analysis (UOA) performed by Predictive Services and Blackstone as well - is that Hot Shot's Secret (HSS) is very beneficial.
